Fort Myers has low travel taxes

Sales tax (both state and local) often represent a significant portion of a travelers hotel or vacation rental bill.

A recent report by the Global Business Travel Associatoin Foundation notes that Fort Myers and two other Florida cities have the lowest single-day travel taxes.

The foundation’s 2012 report, Travel Taxes in the U.S., ranks the top 50 markets in the nation by overall tax burden, including general sales tax and travel taxes.

It said travelers incur a total burden of $22.21 per day in Fort Myers, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach.

Cities with the highest travel tax totals: Chicago at $40.31 per day and New York at $37.98.
